I read the news today oh boy...

November 2020

I have to admit that sometimes, as the 10pm News is about to start, I switch the channel, or look for some escape route via Netflix.

We need to take breaks from the negativity being reported.  Positives this year may have been the experience of friends who have reached out after months/years of absence; against perhaps the negatives of being let down by more recent friendships that have crumbled under the pressure of it all.  A Day in the Life changed a lot.

This year has had so many effects on all of us; yet we must focus on the positives.  There are certainly many!

At Russell Bedford International’s AGM, one of our members commented: “It would be easy, given the current environment & challenges of the year, for the discussion to be negative - but it’s fantastic that so much is positive and focused on growth.”

A North American member wanted to shout out to a colleague from a firm in Europe who dealt with a very urgent client matter late on a Friday evening, translating an entire set of financial statements into English, to include in US disclosures.  He said: “...and that is the value of this network!”

And more recently, I read on LinkedIn from Russell Bedford Poland (translated from Polish):

“This is a difficult year for everyone; and yet, to a great extent, it is helping our companies around the world get even closer together.  We realised how important it is to be connected and to be part of a global network.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself (and especially not in Polish!)

Whether we remember this year as one of compassion, strength, or reevaluation of friendships - the value of togetherness & helping one another, is something of which we should all be proud.
